About Kaylee

Kaylee grew up in Currumbin Valley, and is now raising her two children Indie and Tom with her husband Troy in Elanora.

Kaylee is active in her community – as a long-term P&C President, member of Tugun SLSC Nippers and Tallebudgera Tigers FC and as a local, knows that in trying times, we need to come together.

As a border community that relies on tourism, COVID-19 has been really tough on Southern Gold Coast families and businesses.

With the challenges ahead, Kaylee understands the State Government will continue to have a crucial role to play.

The Palaszczuk Labor Government has always listened to expert health advice, has put Queenslanders first, has kept them safe, and has provided support to those that are most vulnerable and have been hit the hardest.

More than ever, Currumbin needs a strong, responsible and effective local voice in those decisions, so that as a community, we can begin the work of emerging and rebuilding, the priorities and needs of the Southern Gold Coast are heard and acted on.

As Currumbin unites and recovers, Kaylee understands that protecting the natural environment of the Southern Gold Coast needs to be at the forefront of decisions made in building the infrastructure needed to future proof the area, and deliver better local jobs for the community.

Kaylee was recently the president of Parents and Citizen’s Association (P&C) Queensland – the state’s peak parenting body for the parents of state school students. She was also a board member of the Queensland College of Teachers. Kaylee is passionate about education and the role it plays in providing every child with every opportunity.

As a former member of the Gold Coast Health and Hospital Network Community Advisory Group, Kaylee is committed to fighting for health funding for the Gold Coast.

Kaylee will stand up for the southern Gold Coast – protecting and preserving our community and environment, fighting for school and health funding, strong investment in new infrastructure, roads, and transport.

 What I Stand For

As a border community that relies on tourism, COVID-19 has been really tough on Southern Gold Coast families and businesses.

We will continue to be especially vulnerable to new waves of infection and continue to be hit hard when border restrictions are needed.

With the challenges we have ahead, our State Government will continue to have a crucial role to play.

We need to continue with an approach that listens to expert advice, puts Queensland and people first, keeps us safe, and supports those that are most vulnerable and have been hit the hardest.

We need to make sure we have a strong, responsible and effective local voice in those decisions, so that as we begin the work of emerging and rebuilding, the priorities and needs of the southern Gold Coast are heard and acted on.

As we unite and recover, decisions on developments and infrastructure spending need to build our community, not exploit it for the benefit of outside interests.

Protecting places we love

We live in the best part of the world, and I will always stand to protect the lifestyle we love.

  • I successfully advocated for legislation to ensure the World Surf Reserve is further protected.
  • I oppose bad developments, like Ridong, (that outsiders push, but locals do not want), that don’t respect the Council zoning or the environment.

A transport plan for the Coast

I will make sure we can spend more time in the best part of the world, not on the road in.

  • Major upgrades to the M1, including lane-widening and exit upgrades
  • Planning for a Heavy Rail connection to the Gold Coast Airport
  • Working with locals to make sure they get a say on the Gold Coast Transport Plan:
    • Light rail to Coolangatta
    • Extension of the Oceanway
    • An animal crossing at the Burleigh National Park headland

HAVE YOUR SAY HERE

Supporting local jobs

I want my kids to get good jobs here. I’ll make sure there are not only jobs now, but jobs into the future.

  • Supporting new laws to make sure tradies and subbies get paid, and developers can’t cut and run. Working with businesses to create more jobs here on the south Gold Coast.
  • Supporting small business to grow and diversify in these unprecedented times.

World-class education for every kid

Every child deserves a great education. For many years I fought for better local schools and will continue to do so.

All necessary infrastructure to provide a good learning environment including:

  • Aircon in every classroom, staffroom, and library in every state school
  • Investing in solar panels on state school roofs creating clean energy to cool our classrooms
  • Enough parking, and good pick up and drop off areas
  • The resources our teachers need to do their important job
  • Fostering close connection between schools and community
  • A modern curriculum that gives every child every chance in a rapidly changing world.
